The first real hint of spring on Sunday brought with it a friendly match/training session between All France RFC and a combination of Tokyo Crusaders and Unisys (“Crunisys”, perhaps?). A lack of numbers on both sides meant a much faster game, as we played 12-a-side. Thankfully, Brendan turned up unannounced just before kickoff, because Kyohei injured himself seconds before kickoff, denying him his first start for the Cru. We hope you heal up quickly, Kyohei.
The two teams were pretty evenly matched for the first few minutes. The Cru scored a couple of tries early on but All France had some answers of their own. However, the Cru were able to slowly but surely increase their time of possession and add a few more tries, with All France’s increasing struggling to hit back.
Our visitors from Unisys really shined, with the forwards putting in some great tackles and the backs running some well-drilled lines. Following the match, All France graciously provided pate and baguettes for all, as well as a few beers in the sun. Afterwards 14 members from both clubs piled into a nearby izakaya for the usual round of merriment. All in all a great day out for both Cru rugby and inter-club relations. We should all look forward to the next day out with All France.
